This is an image of the gallery, housing original and recast stone carvings at the ancient city of Aphrodisias. (the image does not do it justice though, it is much better in person) In my opinion, this is the finest example of contemporary Turkish architecture, that we have seen.  The steel structure floats gently above the ancient ruins and responds to its context through repetition in the facade.  Inside, the ceiling sweeps, downward, to a point in the center where natural light floods the space.  (could not get a picture inside) It was exciting to see such a well considered and thoughtful building, after weeks of exploring haphazard and illegal construction + the infamous Ritz Carlton building that everyone in Istanbul loves to hate! (excluding the ancient cities and ruins, they have been nothing short of spectacular) Post by: Mike B.http://www.sacred-destinations.com/turkey/aphrodisias.htm
